What Is a Digital Photo Booth? A Simple Guide for Weddings

August 2026 · 4 min read

A digital photo booth is a photo booth that runs on your guests phones instead of on rented hardware. Guests scan a QR code, shoot photos in their browser, and get shareable keepsakes, while every photo is saved to the couple gallery. There is no booth to rent and no attendant to hire.

How a digital photo booth works

You set up your event once, then print a small QR card for the tables. Guests scan it, take photos on their own phones, pick a filter, and craft a film strip or other keepsake to share. Everything lands in one private gallery you can download later.

Digital booth vs traditional booth

  • A traditional booth is one physical station in one corner, with an attendant and paper prints
  • A digital booth runs on every phone at once, so the whole room is the booth
  • Digital costs a fraction of a rental and keeps the full-resolution originals

When a digital photo booth is the right choice

If you want lots of candid, on-theme photos to keep, minimal setup, and no per-print cost, a digital QR booth is ideal. If a physical prop wall and instant paper prints are essential to your style, a rental may suit better. Our setup guide walks through running a digital one.
